AN ACCLAIMED classical duo will perform works by Mozart, Michael Haydn and JS Bach at a charity concert on Thursday April 30.
World-renowned violinist Rachel Podger and professional violist Jane Rogers will play a free concert at Bilton Methodist Church and collect donations for the charity Action for Children.
The concert will be a chance for the pair to warm up in preparation for a concert in Groningen, Netherlands in May.
Rachel, of whom Gramophone magazine wrote: “there is probably no more inspirational musician working today,” has established herself as a leading interpreter of the music of the Baroque and Classical periods over the last 20 years.
She has won numerous prestigious awards, including Diapasons d’Or, a Baroque Instrumental Gramophone Award, and a BBC Music Magazine award. In February she was awarded the prestigious Royal Academy of Music Bach Prize.
Rugby resident Jane Rogers studied viola at the Royal Academy of Music with John White, Stephen Shingles and Jan Schlapp, during which time she became a member of the European Union Baroque Orchestra. This led to her embarking on a busy career in the field of early music.
During her prolific recording career she has appeared on over 200 CD recordings, several of which have won awards.
Jane said: “Rachel is a world-renowned violinist specialising in historical performance and it’s fantastic that she’ll be here in Rugby.
“Rachel and I have been friends and colleagues since we were at Music College in London and have been performing together in various orchestras and ensembles for over 20 years.”
The concert takes place at Bilton Methodist Church on April 30 at 7.30pm.
