Open Door concerts return to rugby church

OPEN Door Concerts at St Andrew’s Church return for the autumn on Friday October 9 with a performance by Caroline Jones on recorders and Charles Matthews on spinet – a small harpsichord popular in the 18th century.

Caroline Jones studied recorder at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and Birmingham Conservatoire, graduating with distinction. As a performer, teacher and conductor Caroline has inspired many audiences throughout the UK and abroad, and has been described as “Highly expressive and technically brilliant” by German newspaper Westfälische Rundschau.

Charles Matthews studied at the Royal College of Music, London, and as an organ scholar at Trinity College, Cambridge. Charles pursues a varied career as pianist, organist and teacher, performing and broadcasting for radio and television in the UK and internationally. He has won numerous awards, most notably the first prize in the 1999 Franz Liszt Memorial Competition for Interpretation in Budapest. His recordings have been issued by Olympia, Guild, Touch and Priory.

The programme includes works by Diego Ortiz, Bartolomé Selma y Salaverde, Antonio Soler, Juan de Ledesma, Eric Wetherell, Edmund Rubbra, Juan Vazquez and Consuelo Díez.
