A SPECTACULAR two-week showcase of Rugby’s arts and entertainments begins tomorrow (Friday June 26) as the curtain lifts on the annual Rugby Festival of Culture.
Now in its fifth year, the colourful event will spotlight the town’s best music, dance, art, theatre, comedy, poetry, literature, walks, food and drink across over 80 events in various town centre locations.
Events include an art trail, exhibitions, photography, a Disney Frozen singalong, a comedy night, films, a David Starkey lecture on the Magna Carta, a ‘Last Night of the Proms’, and a Stephen Raines Piano Recital.
Theatre performances include Mr Stink, Munchkins and Monsters: Back in time for Breakfast, When we are Married and Story in the Park.
Over 30 stalls will sell tempting food and drink on Thursday June 9’s food fayre, while local restaurants and pubs will be putting on events throughout the festival.
Chart-topping pop rockers Scouting For Girls and The South – featuring former members of The Beautiful South – will headline the festival’s music bill, which also includes one of the world’s leading concert cellists Anup Kumar Biswas, local bands including The Dukes Jetty and Paper Street Soap Company, choral music, opera, jazz, piano recitals and open mic nights, while al-fresco music will be performed in the grounds of St Andrew’s Church and John Lees Hall garden on Saturdays throughout the festival.
The festival runs from Friday June 26 until Sunday July 12.
