HEROIC youngsters could become winners of the Young Epilepsy Champions Awards, following in the footsteps of a young Rugby girl who won last year’s prize.
National children’s charity Young Epilepsy is calling for people to put forward their epilepsy champions – people who overcome personal epilepsy obstacles – before nominations close at midnight on February 28.
Last year’s awards saw Sienna Adderley, five years old at the time, pick up an award after her heroic actions and quick thinking saved her mother’s life.
After spotting her mother Katie starting to have a seizure, Sienna picked up the phone to call 999.
Tearful at first, she told the operator she couldn’t wake her mummy up, before clearly and calmly answering questions and providing updates about her mum’s condition.
Katie Adderley, Sienna’s mother, said; “My daughter won the Bravery Award last year, it’s such an amazing celebration of truly inspirational people. We have some great memories of the night and met some amazing people.”
Carol Long, Chief Executive at Young Epilepsy, said: “The Young Epilepsy Champions Awards is a truly magical evening for inspirational people who make a real difference to those with epilepsy.
“It’s a chance to celebrate individuals or groups who support those living with the condition and those who have epilepsy and never let it stop them achieving their dreams.
“If you know someone worthy please nominate him or her, they could be off to London for the star-studded ceremony.”
