Culprits sought for huge rural fly-tip near Rugby

TAXPAYERS face a four-figure clean-up bill thanks to fly-tippers who dumped a huge pile of rubbish in Little Lawford Lane.

Witnesses have been urged to come forward after the household and building waste was discovered between Newnham Lane and the Fosse Way (B4455) on Monday morning (November 16).

The council’s environmental protection team has now launched an investigation into the incident and welcomes any information about the potential culprits.

Coun Lisa Parker, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for sustainable environment, said: “This has all the hallmarks of a commercial fly-tip carried out by someone happy to make a profit at the expense of the environment and the taxpayer.

“We operate a zero-tolerance policy on fly-tipping and our environmental protection team has started a thorough search of the dumped waste in a bid to find evidence which can lead us to the culprits.

“However, members of the public who saw any suspicious activity in Little Lawford Lane over the weekend or early on Monday morning could hold the key to bringing those responsible to book.

“If you have any information which can help the investigation, please call the environmental protection team on (01788) 533857.”
