Hedgehogs to get a boost from borough residents

Rugby Editorial 29th Aug, 2016 Updated: 27th Oct, 2016   0

HEDGEHOGS could get a boost from borough residents.

Warwickshire Wildlife Trust’s new Hedgehog Officer Debbie Wright is urging people to help with the declining hedgehog population by monitoring the number of the prickly creatures in their own gardens.

The national population of hedgehogs is dropping fast – at the same rate as endangered tigers – and studies by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society estimate the UK population is down to its last million.

Along with the survey, Debbie is setting up two events to get people involved.

On September 14, she is hosting a free workshop at Brandon Marsh for people to make ‘footprint tunnels’ – an easy way to spot visiting hedgehogs in their own gardens.

And on October 1 she will be teaching people how to make their own hedgehog home for their own gardens.
