Opticians put best foot forward for charity challenge

A TEAM of far-sighted Rugby opticians have stepped out of their comfort zone to raise over £500 in a charity running challenge.

A team of six from Scrivens Opticians and Hearing Care chose to run eight kilometres for the company’s charity, Alzheimer’s Society, after deciding to use the fundraiser as an attempt to get fit.

Sarah Cave, who has managed the Regent Street branch for the past decade, said: “Alzheimer’s Society is close to our hearts as a couple of us have lost parents to the brain disease, as well as it being Scrivens’ chosen charity.

“None of us were runners, so taking on the challenge really did take us out of our natural comfort zone. We were overwhelmed by the level of fundraising support we received from our customers, family and friends and this has given us confidence to carry on and get fit.”

Over the last 18 months, Scrivens has raised over £16,000 for Alzheimer’s Society, the leading support and research charity in the UK for people with dementia and their carers.

Ray Nash, Fundraising Executive at Alzheimer’s Society, said: “We are very grateful to Scrivens, including the team at Rugby for all they have done to support the charity and would like to say a big ‘thank you’.

“This money will be used to continue supporting people affected by dementia in the Rugby area.”
