A STRANGER tried to entice a Rugby schoolgirl to go home with him on Wednesday (April 20).

Police have warned the public to be vigilant after the man approached a 12-year-old girl as she was walking along Overslade Lane at around 3.30pm.

She sensibly decided to walk away and the man walked off down Overslade Lane.

He is described as white, around 6ft tall and of a skinny build. He was wearing a grey hoodie and dark jeans with Nike trainers. He had black spiky hair and a scar below his right ear, and spoke with a Birmingham accent.

Anyone with information is asked to call Police on 101 quoting incident number 331 of April 20 – or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Insp Karl Faulkner said patrols were being carried out in the area and enquiries were ongoing.

He said: “We would like to reassure the community this appears to be an isolated incident and we will continue to provide a police presence in the area when possible.

“The victim made the right decision by not going with the man and we would encourage parents to reiterate the dangers of talking to strangers.

“We would ask children to never go off with anyone they do not know, get into a vehicle with a stranger, accept gifts off a stranger or wander off on their own.”
