Rugby beautician offers a haven to cancer patients

CANCER sufferers can find ‘relaxation, support and comfort’ at a Rugby beauty salon thanks to its staff’s special training.

Lucy Smith, owner of Urban Beauty on Church Street, has recently undertaken accredited training to be able to provide treatments for clients with cancer.

The team at Urban Beauty are hoping the new treatments will dispel myths surrounding whether their practices, especially massage, are safe while undergoing cancer treatment.

Lucy insisted it was perfectly safe if adaptations were made and therapists were specially trained to handle their needs.

She said: “After completing this training we can now offer a range of treatments to customers with cancer. We want to try and make sure all their needs are accounted for and just try to make them feel as comfortable as the rest of our clients.”

Lucy, who has run Urban Beauty for more than a decade, lost her own mother to cancer two years ago, which made her even more determined to be able to help and support others with the illness when they need it the most.

She said: “With such high figures of people being diagnosed with cancer, as therapists the chances of us having a client who is undergoing treatment or in remission is becoming more common.

“People suffering with the illness can come and get the relaxation, support and comfort they need at an already difficult and distressing time, safe in the knowledge their therapist will go through a full consultation to understand their needs so each treatment will be tailor made to suit them.

“We are happy that clients will be able to walk into Urban Beauty knowing that they will be met with confidence, understanding and leave feeling refreshed and reconnected.”
