BEARS secured promotion to the Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball League Division Two after being crowned champions of Division Three (Central/East).
A convincing 70-18 victory in their final league fixture of the season at London Sparrows was enough for Bears to finish one point ahead of Coventry Crusaders.
It also ensures them a place in the National Play-Offs at the end of May in Worcester.
From the tip off the Bears were determined to not allow any slip ups and an intense defensive display combined with a free-scoring attack saw them take a 20-2 lead.
In the second quarter a few additions from the bench saw Bears step up the intensity and they were able to stretch their lead to 30-12 by the half-way stage.
A determined Bears maintained their strong defence after the re-start and after forcing their opponents into a series of mistakes to open up a 50-16 lead.
With the game virtually won, there was still no let up on as Bears finished the league campaign in style to claim a 70-18 win and clay down a marker for the upcoming play-offs.
“I’m really pleased for the players,” said head coach Tom Masterson.
“I’m so proud of the whole squad, who have worked hard all season and have won promotion plus a spot in this year’s National Play-Offs were they can pit themselves against the other top teams in the country.
“Although all the team were magnificent today, I have to make a special mention to the team’s MVP Richard Daffern, who lead from the start and galvanised such a strong display by the team.”
The Bears’ next game will be in the National play-Offs on either May 30/31 at the Worcester Arena.
