RUGBY’s Kimberley Woods earned a first place finish in the C1 class at the recent ICE world ranking event in Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia.

The race took place on the artificial course on the left bank of the river Vah that feeds the course and the Great Britain team used the event as a training opportunity for next month’s European Championships.

Held over two days, the event involved heats for all classes on the Saturday while the semi-finals and finals took place the following day.

Along with her GB team mates, Woods qualified through to the semi-finals with ease without needing to take a second run along with her training partner Mallory Franklin who also qualified in both C1 and K1 category.

In the semi-finals on Sunday, Woods was putting in a good run in the K1 until the last two gates from the end where she was very low on a breakout and lost several seconds which meant she missed out on a place in the final.

However in the C1 category Woods put in a safe run to ensure she made the finals in third placeand a close finish saw her come first ahead if team mate Mallory by just over a second.
