Martin Knuckey signs with Coventry Storm for 2016

MARTIN Knuckey will be returning for his fourth season with Coventry Storm after signing up for the 2016 campaign, writes Observer speedway reporter Robin Allen.

Knuckey made massive strides during 2015 and completed the campaign as Storm captain after Dan Greenwood had been ruled out due to injury.

The Cornish rider deservedly received the ‘Rider of the Year’ award for the Storm at last weekend’s end-of-season presentations after establishing himself as a genuine National League heat-leader with a string of high scores.

He finished off the 2015 campaign with a series of spectacular rides in the double-header against Eastbourne and Mildenhall, and he will now look to improve still further on his 6.78 average.

“Marty really matured as a rider in 2015, and the progress he made was phenomenal,” said Storm manager Laurence Rogers.

“I feel moving to Coventry last winter made a huge difference to him, he didn’t have six or seven hours in a van before he arrived at the stadium, and that meant he was fresh and happy before racing.

2He also took the captaincy to heart, he was very responsible and he made sure he was always with the other riders geeing them up before every race.

“I expect 2016 is going to be a very big year for Marty.”

The National League AGM, when regulations and points limits for next season will be finalised, takes place in early December.
