RUGBY Swimming Club produced an impressive performance in the Mercian Swimming League and are hoping they have done enough to reach the Grand Final.
The team travelled to Tamworth’s SnowDome on June 11 and were going toe-to-teo with Worcester all evening with the two sides leaving Warley Wasps, Tamworth, Ludlow and Kingsbury Aquarius in their wake.
Rugby led at every points check and held on to win by three points with a total of 240 after winning 20 of their 51 events, while Worcester finished on 237.
There were several outstanding swims with Rachel Lloyd, Anna Farrow, Rhys James, Jasmine Rigg and Megan Williams all coming from behind to win their respective races.
Most noticeably the men’s open Medley Relay team of Rhys James, Devesh Chohan, Ethan Fletcher, and George Jarman were fifth at one stage but they went on to win, and the girl’s freestyle relay team of Erin Lloyd, Libby O’Brien, Ella Marlow, and Clara Heywood on their event.
Jack Dolly also impressed on his Rugby debut by winning the 100m butterfly and six races later he won the under-14 event too.
Jack also teamed up with Ben Jones, Pavels Scerbakovs, and Max Taylor in winning both the Freestyle and Medley relays by nearly a whole length.
Additionally a number of second places from Clara Haywood, Pavels, Abbie, Harriet Troupe, Aoife, George, Nat Kayada, Ceri, Max, Erin (Moran and Lloyd), Ella Marlow, and several of the relay teams kept the proverbial score board ticking.
