Rugby Welsh romp to eight-try friendly victory

RUGBY Welsh scored eight tries as they romped to a comfortable 50-14 friendly win at Aylestone Athletic.

Without the pressure of the league, both sides attempted to run the ball at every opportunity but Welsh were more effective in building up the phases before moving the ball out wide.

The first try followed excellent work by the forwards allowing Adam Bond at full back to score a try converted by Angus Wilson.

The Welsh scrum was solid throughout, creating a good platform and further forward drives saw Wayne Grant crash over for a try. which was again converted by Wilson.

Welsh increased their lead with Jamie Roche showing great strength to force his way over following a lineout.

And with the visitors in rampant form, they increased their lead to 31 points by half-time thanks to a well-worked try from Guy Shaw and an interception try from Jack Taylor, with Wilson converting the latter.

In the second half both sides continued to run with the ball and to their credit Aylestone began to cause Welsh problems as they searched for a way back into the match.

Welsh gradually began to gain more control and secured their victory as Bond, from a powerful individual run, Taylor, following a chip and chase ahead and Shaw all scored their second tries of the afternoon.

Shaw converted two of the efforts as Welsh reached the 50 point mark.

The home side were rewarded for their enterprising and committed display with two late converted tries but this performance will give Welsh plenty of heart for forthcoming league games starting with a tough trip to Trinity Guild this Saturday.
