Storm produce best display to beat Belle Vue

STORM pulled off one of their best results of the season with a 51-39 win over play-off chasing Belle Vue Colts.

It was just a second home win of the season for the Storm, with several of their riders displaying a welcome return to form at Brandon last Friday.

Reserves Conor Dwyer and Callum Walker out-scored their opposite numbers 16-4, whilst guest Tom Perry and skipper Liam Carr supplied the Storm with the firepower they needed to contain a powerful Colts top-order.

The Storm made the best possible start with 5-1s in the opening two races, and a Colts comeback was delayed in Heat 3 when Danny Ayres was disqualified for wearing the wrong helmet colour, having crossed the finish line in front.

The visitors did level the match in Heat 7 but the Storm rebuilt their advantage with maximum points in the next and then pulled clear to victory.

“It was a superb win, and a great all-round team performance,” said Storm boss Laurence Rogers. “I’m really pleased for all of the lads, they rode their socks off.

“A big start with the two 5-1s gave us the start we needed against a strong Colts side, and it was great to see Conor Dwyer back on-form with paid-13.

“Callum was fast and deserved more than his paid seven, but those two made all the difference with their scoring from the reserve berth.

“Skipper Liam top-scored for us, and Tom was a great guest once again – we are all so chuffed with the result.”
