THE YOUNG trio of Adam Searle, Adam Caulfield and Joe Musgrove starred at the Midland Counties Area Road Relays in Birmingham at the weekend by sealing silver for Rugby in the under-15 boys three-stage race.

Musgrove kicked things off for the team after racing around the Sutton Park course in an impressive time of 13 minutes and 31 seconds, which placed him as the eighth quickest in stage one.

Next up was Caulfield, who gained six places with a strong run of 13.08 – the third-fastest time of the stage – to put the team in second place behind Charnwood AC going into the final leg.

Searle was the last team member to take to the course, and he stormed home with a sub 13-minute finish, crossing the line in 12.57, which was the second quickest time of the day.

Despite a superb effort, the gap on Charnwood could not quite be made up and the boys were rewarded with an excellent silver-medal placing.

It was not just the youngsters showing their class at the event, with the club’s veteran men securing a fantastic sixth-place finish in the Masters six-stage race.

Stephen Marks (19.49), Gary Wallace (22.00), Terry Egan (22.43), Neil Willsher (23.04), John Gercs (20.49) and Vince Carroll (22.08) all contributed to a fine team effort.

Gercs’ time was the second-fastest in stage five, while all the other men secured top ten placings in their respective stages.

The senior team were also in action and they finished 49th in a strongly-contested event.

Robert Male (21.14), Adam Wright (20.45), Paul Shotton (21.29), Jonathan Taylor (22.54), Laurence Scott (24.15) and Max Chippington (24.42) all played their part to round off a good weekend for the club.
