THE GREAT British weather at the weekend may not have been ideal for those celebrating The Queen’s 90th birthday, but it was perfect for the 4,000 runners taking part in the annual Two Castles Run.
Cool temperatures and light rain on Sunday morning were just what competitors ordered for the race between Warwick and Kenilworth castles.
The run, organised by Kenilworth Rotary Club and Leamington Cycling and Athletics Club and sponsored by Leamington-based solicitors Blythe Liggins, is set to raise £100,000 for charity.
Warwick Mayor Christine Cross and MP Chris White started competitors on their way at Warwick Castle at 9am, and race winner Daniel Nash crossed the line at Kenilworth Castle 32 minutes and 34 seconds later.
Daniel, a member of East Cornwall Harriers running club and first time Two Castles competitor, narrowly beat runner up Alistair Smith to the line, with Stephen Page in third.
The first woman home was Kenilworth Runners’ own Sarah Rose in a time of 38 minutes and 31 seconds, followed by Kelly Edwards and Natalie Bhangal.
Men’s team prize went to Coventry Godiva Harriers and the women’s team victors were Kenilworth Runners.
Rotarian Race organiser Philip Southwell said: “As always our priority is to have a safe, injury free event and today we have again achieved that together with raising £100.000 for charity.”
