Two golds for crossbow star Iris Bingham in Florida

RUGBY’s Iris Bingham was on target at the World Crossbow Shooting Association (WCSA) Crossbow Championships in Florida after coming away with two gold medals.

The Rugby Sport for the Disabled member retained two of her world titles at the event which attracted competitors from all across the globe including Australia, South Africa and Ireland.

Most days the temperature reached up 93F and the humidity was extreme but Bingham, who shoots for

the National Crossbow Federation of Great Britain held her nerve to be crowned a double winner.




Bingham achieved her highest score of the year on the opening day of the competition despite experiencing problems with her string as she scored 826 out of 900.

Her final score after day two, which saw her shooting disrupted by a storm, saw her finish with 1419 out of a possivle 1530 which secured her first place.


Bingham’s second World Championship title came in the second day in the Forest Competition.

The 48 shots each day were at 24 animal pictures set out in the forest and marked distances were set between 8m and 45m.

Bingham shot 1810 out of 1920 to claim her second win and bring to an end a memorable championship in Florida.

She said: “Overall, I was extremely pleased with my performance especially as I missed five months of training due to a shoulder operation.

“It was great to meet up with so many friends from all over the world.”

The next WCSA Target World Championships is set to take place in Adelaide in 2017.
