JACK Concannon’s injury-time goal earned Rugby Town a smash-and-grab 1-0 derby win against Racing Club Warwick.
Concannon struck four minutes into injury time at Butlin Road as Valley claimed a third win against the Racers in all competitions this season.
The result means Rugby sit 12th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, five points outside of the play-off places.
Warwick somehow failed to take the lead early on when Jack Edwards squared the ball across the face of goal only for Aaron Opoku to slide in and hit the crossbar from close range with the goal at his mercy.
And Callum Coyle then played in Opoku down the left-hand side of the penalty area who saw his goalbound effort cleared off the line by a retreating Valley defender.
The visitors remained on top as Opoku fired a low effort narrowly wide of the target with Valley goalkeeper Marcus Bald at full stretch.
Rugby’s best chance of the first period saw Josh Thomas rise highest at the near post to head a corner from the right wide of the target.
The Racers looked to break the deadlock after the break as Bald held Edwards’ shot after he failed to cleanly punch a high ball to safety.
Warwick eventually had the ball in the back of the net later in the second period only for James Harding to see his effort ruled out for offside.
However, Valley snatched the points four minutes into injury time as the home side launched a counter attack and Concannon latched onto Geoffrey Lundoloki’s through ball and coolly found the bottom left corner.
Rugby are next in action against Carlton Town on Saturday, December 20 with kick-off at 3pm at the Bill Stokeld Stadium.
