A CARELESS driver has been fined, ordered to pay costs, and given nine points on his licence after he was caught on camera nearly hitting an oncoming car while overtaking on a main road in Rugby.
The 52-year-old driver from Rugby was caught on dashcam on the Rugby Western Relief Road back in August.
The owner of the dashcam submitted the footage to Warwickshire Police’s Operation Snap for review by a road traffic officer.
Speaking after the sentence, Insp Dave Valente said: “This driver ignored a keep-left sign, nearly hit an oncoming car, and showed no regard for others.
“The sentence reflects this as the outcome could have been so much worse. We hope that being so close to losing his licence will now encourage him to be a better driver. “
Police are asking the public to keep submitting footage of traffic offences, such as driving dangerously or carelessly, using a mobile phone while driving, ignoring traffic lights, or driving too close or too fast past horse riders and cyclists.
