MORE than £200,000 worth of cocaine and cannabis will never reach Rugby’s streets thanks to some quick-footed police officers.
Police tried to pull over Jobe Larrassey, 33, when he was driving through the town on December 10, following investigations which suggested he was supplying drugs.
But he refused to stop, speeding along Leicester Road before crashing into a lorry. He tried to run away, but was arrested.
Police found around 2kg of cocaine hidden in his car boot, and more cocaine and a large quantity of cannabis in his home – bringing the total haul to an estimated street value of over £200,000.
Larrassey was charged with possession with intent to supply cocaine and cannabis, and dangerous driving.
Having admitted all charges, he appeared at Warwick Crown Court where he was sentenced to seven years in prison – six for cocaine possession and a year for dangerous driving.
He was also given a four-month sentence for cannabis possession, to be served concurrently.
Det Cons Matt Rapkins said: “This was a major seizure and a dangerous offender is now behind bars.
“Larrassey’s actions were reckless, but our officers acted decisively to prevent those drugs from reaching our communities.
“The sentence reflects the seriousness of what he did, and I hope it makes others think twice.”
