FUND-RAISERS are hoping to hit the right note by joining with local musicians for a Musical Afternoon Tea in aid of a military charity next month.
Rugby Rotarians will host the event, which will feature musical entertainment with a foodie theme served up by Rugby Operatic and Musical Society (ROAMS).
Organised in conjunction with The Rotary Club of Rugby and Rugby Masonic Lodge, the event will raise funds for Fisher House, which provides a sanctuary for the families of military patients receiving treatment at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The Fisher House Foundation also operates the Hero Miles program, using donated flyer miles to bring family member to the bedside of injured service members, and the Hotels For Heroes program, which uses donated hotel points to allow family members to stay near medical centres without charge.
It also manages a grant program that supports other charities and scholarship funds for military children, spouses and children of fallen and disabled veterans.
Rotarian and ROAMS member Tricia Davis said: “In order to support our Districts Food Themed project in March we were looking for a fundraising event as well as our community service event.
“I am a longtime member of ROAMS, so when the chairman asked me when the society could do a concert for Rotary it seemed ideal to combine the two ideas of food and music.
“The charity is a wonderful example of service for people, which is what Rotary is all about.”
ROAMS Chairman Stuart Esworthy said: “Fisher House is the centre of excellence for military medicine in the United Kingdom so families do not have to travel hundreds of miles to be with their loved one but can be with them in their hour of need.
“We are pleased to partner an Afternoon Tea with Rotary and the Rugby Operatic and Musical Society in support of this and other worthy causes.”
The proceeds will also benefit other Rotary-supported charities including Shelterbox, a local women’s refuge, and refugee children in Rugby.
The Musical Afternoon Tea will also offer the chance to win one of three luxury food and drink hampers.
It takes place at Arnold House in Elsee Road on March 29 from 2-5pm. Tickets cost £25 and are available by contacting Tricia on 07949 155302.
