Rugby Editorial 23rd Jul, 2014 Updated: 27th Oct, 2016   0

A MAN collapsed and died after he was chased and apprehended by police on Sunday evening.

Officers suspected him of being involved in metal theft near Pennington Mews.

The man ran from the officers but collapsed when he was finally caught.

The police called an ambulance and tried to resuscitate the man, and he was taken to University Hospital Coventry where he was pronounced dead just after 8.15pm.

The man was expected to be formally identified following a post mortem on Tuesday although that had not happened as we went to press.

Warwickshire Police has referred the case to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
