THE number of councillors could be cut even further with Warwickshire County Council set to reduce its ranks from 65 to 57.
The move ordered by the independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England would save almost £72,000 in allowances.
It comes two weeks after Rugby council voted narrowly in favour of applying to the commission to cut the number of its councillors from 42 to between 30 and 35, saving a similar amount.
A debate has also recently begun on the possibility of abolishing the seven district and borough councils altogether in a bid to cut £50m a year from public spending.
Currently 11 councillors represent Rugby in eight divisions of Warwickshire council and new boundaries will be needed to ensure each represents roughly the same number of voters.
Max Caller, chair of the commission, said: “As we develop the recommendations, we will take into account local community identities as well as ensuring electoral equality for voters.
“If you have a view about which communities, parishes or neighbourhoods should be part of the same county division, then we want to hear from you.
“And if you think a road, river or railway makes for a strong boundary between communities in your part of Warwickshire, then this consultation is for you.”
Interactive maps of the existing boundaries can be found at consultation.lgbce.org.uk and lgbce.org.uk.
Residents have until June 23 to submit their views before draft recommendations are published in September.
