Mums urged to get sporty

MUMS across Rugby are being encouraged to grab their babies and buggies as part of a drive to get more women into sport.

Buggy Mum exercise classes are being held at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre in Bruce Williams Way to give mums the opportunity to get back into shape after a new addition to their family.

The classes, which are supported by CSW Sport, take place on Thursdays between 11am and noon and combine a variety of activities including power walking, light running, toning exercises and group exercises.

Hannah Plimmer, instructor at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre, said: “This is a great way to improve health and well-being after a new arrival, with exercises providing light cardio as well as helping to strengthen and tone particular muscle groups.

“The classes have grown in popularity and we really want to encourage more mums to take part.”

Natalie Scotland has been taking part in the classes with her 11-month-old son Noah.

“Buggy Mums is a great way to keep fit. When you first have your baby you don’t really want to be apart from them so it’s been great to take my son with me and keep fit,” she said.

“The classes include running-based activities and they often also set-up circuit type activities which is good. I find it’s a great way to relieve stress and I enjoy taking part.”
