RUGBY’S high street should be regarded as one of the best in the country according to MP Mark Pawsey.

Mark is calling on the people of Rugby to take part in The Great British High Street Awards 2015 – a competition that celebrates excellence in town centres up and down the country and highlights the work done to support local retailers.

Internet giant Google has recently announced that it will be sponsoring this year’s awards, offering support to shops in winning locations as well as a share of the £80,000 prize fund.

Proud of the shopping streets, Mr Pawsey said: “We can be proud of Rugby Town centre which boasts a great selection of independent retailers. This is a great opportunity to promote the town, especially in the build up to the Rugby World Cup this autumn. With the fanzone and other celebratory activities taking place during the competition, Rugby will have a number of visitors and I know that they will see a vibrant and dynamic town.”

Nominations for the Great British High Street Awards are open until 1st September 2015, after which a shortlist of 21 nominees will be open to the public to vote on.

Mark added: “Having run a small business before I entered Parliament I know the challenges that retailers have faced here in Rugby and I hope that the work done by the community and local shops is recognised.”
