A COLLISION with a lorry left two men trapped in their car on the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire border earlier this morning.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to reports of the collision on the A5 between Clifton upon Dunsmore and Lilbourne at 5.40am today (Monday July 27). Two ambulances, a paramedic area support officer, a community paramedic and a doctor attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “When crews arrived they found a car which had been involved in a significant collision with the rear of a lorry. The driver and passenger of the car, both men, were trapped in the wreckage.

“Ambulance staff assessed both men and found the passenger had sustained suspected serious injuries to his leg and pelvis whilst the driver escaped with less serious injuries.

“Whilst fire colleagues worked to release the two men, ambulance staff and the doctor continued treatment. The passenger was given pain relief before he was extricated from the car and immobilised with a neck collar, spinal board and pelvic splint.

“The man was then taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire, a major trauma centre, for further treatment. The doctor travelled in the back of the ambulance to continue treatment en route. The driver, who had sustained a collarbone injury, was also immobilised and taken to the same hospital for further treatment.”
