LAWRENCE Sheriff School has thwarted predictions of a drop in A-Level standards.

Students maintained the school’s 100 per cent pass rate, while 63 per cent of entries gained A or B grades.

Three students have been accepted to Oxford or Cambridge, while four others are progressing onto medical or veterinary courses. The school expects 98 percent of students to move on to higher education, as in previous years.

Results nationally were predicted to fall as a result of the government’s changes to the qualification.

Acting head teacher Gwen Temple said: “I would like to congratulate everyone on these results.

“These strong grades have been achieved through a lot of hard work by students and staff.

“I wish our students continuing success as they now progress on to higher education or employment.”
