New distribution hub brings 200 permanent jobs to Rugby

OVER two hundred permanent jobs will be created at a £31million automated parcel distribution hub to be built at the Rugby Gateway, the logistics site to the north of the town.

Consumer delivery firm Hermes announced the development today (Thursday January 21), the largest single investment ever made by the company.

The 270,000 square foot ‘Midlands Super Hub’ will have the capacity to process up to 1.1million parcels every day and will increase the company’s overall parcel processing capacity by 45 per cent.

Work on the facility started earlier this week, with the facility expected to open in August 2017. Job applications are expected to open in Spring 2017.

Hermes CEO Carole Woodhead said: “The substantial investment in Rugby shows how we continue to strengthen our network and infrastructure across the UK. This will ensure we have the capacity to cope with prolonged periods of intense activity as well as spikes such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

“We are laying the foundations for future growth, creating more employment opportunities and confirming our position as an industry leader.”

Hermes just recorded its busiest peak season to date, processing 30.3 million parcels in December – a 24 per cent increase on the previous year.
