Rugby shooting/stabbing victims stable in hospital; witnesses urged to come forward

THE TEENAGE victims of a shooting and stabbing in Oxford Street last week are in a stable condition.

A 17-year-old with a gunshot would and an 18-year-old with a knife injury are currently being treated in hospital.

Police were called to a house in Oxford Street just before 9pm on Thursday (March 17) to a report that a 17-year-old male had been injured with a firearm.

While they were at the scene, another man at the property, aged 18, was found with a knife wound.




A police cordon was in place around Oxford Street and Argyle Street to the junction of Cambridge Street, which was removed on Friday (March 18) at around 7pm.

A scene guard remains in place at the property on Oxford Street and on the access road immediately behind leading to Claremont Road.


Detectives continue to appeal for information from anyone using the access road leading into Claremont Road and Tom Brown Street towards the town centre at around 9pm on Thursday, March 17 to contact them on 101 quoting incident number 447 of March 17.

Detective Chief Inspector Pete Hill said: “We are appealing to people who were in the area at the time who may have vital information on this crime to come forward.
