A FATAL fall from a bridge and an unrelated fire at a nearby scrapyard saw a major route into Rugby closed for several hours this morning (Wednesday March 30).
Police were called to Leicester Road in Rugby shortly before 12.20am to concerns for a man’s safety.
Paramedics also attended the scene and a man in his early 50s was declared dead. Police are not currently treating the incident as suspicious.
At around 3am, a number of 999 calls were made to report a fire at a scrapyard in Newbold Road, which raged for three hours.
Three fire engines attended to combat the blaze, believed to have originated from a tractor trailer unit.
Crews attended again this morning to ensure the fire was completely out.
