A VIOLENT man who attacked a Rugby shopkeeper with a snooker cue has been jailed.
Nerijus Kiaune, address unknown, was convicted of wounding with intent at Warwick Crown Court – the second man to be jailed for assaulting the lone shopkeeper of Josies off licence in Church Street in October 2014.
The 28-year-old was sentenced to six years four months in prison, to run consecutively to the two year eight month sentence he is currently serving for unrelated offences. He will be deported at the end of his sentence.
His sentence follows that of Modestas Vaitkevicius, 25, address unknown, who was sentenced to eight years in prison in June 2015.
Kiuane’s conviction follows the release of CCTV footage (see below) at the time of Vaitkevicius’s sentencing. In the video, Kiaune (who is wearing a green jacket) can be seen swinging a cue at the shop keeper.
The third suspect remains outstanding, but it is hoped that he may still be identified by the footage.
The assault happened at around 6:30pm on Tuesday 28 October 2014 following a verbal confrontation.
The shop keeper suffered life-changing injuries, including a fracture to his back, permanent scarring to his forehead and a debilitating fracture to his thumb.
Det Con. Unett said: “Since Vaitkevicius was convicted we have managed to identify and convict a second man involved.
“The shocking level of violence used by both Kiaune and Vaitkevicius is unacceptable in society and the sentence received demonstrates it will not be tolerated.
“I am pleased justice has now caught up with Kiaune and hope the shop keeper is able to continue his recovery from the incident that undoubtedly had a huge physical and psychological impact on him.”
Anyone who recognises the outstanding suspect (shown in the footage wearing a blue top and black gilet) is urged to call police on 101, quoting incident number 304 of October 28 2014.
