WHILE Team GB continue to rack up the medals in Rio, members of the Rugby Sport for the Disabled Association came away with three themselves from Sunday’s National Crossbow Federation Tournament.

Nuneaton’s new outdoor shooting venue played host as Iris Bingham, Graeme Mooney and Kevin Rumble did battle in the warm and sunny conditions, although the wind did cause participants many problems.

Bingham was her usual competitive self and proved once again why she is considered one of the best in the country after winning the tournament with a points total of 813 out of 900.

The windy conditions did have more of a negative effect on Mooney however. “The weather would have been ideal had it not been for the strong wind which made shooting difficult especially as I only have one arm,” he said.

“Nobody could hold their bow still. As usual there was a great atmosphere.”

Despite the setback, Mooney and team mate Rumble went toe-to-toe in the ‘Sporting Standard’ category but it was Mooney who came out on top with a total of 478 out of 600, while Rumble finished just two points behind on 476 to take second place.

Elsewhere there were also gold medals for Graeme Peatfield (Medieval), Tony Reynolds (Gents Target), Simon Emmett (Gents Sporting) and Alan Gregory (Senior Men Sporting).
