POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an armed robbery at the BP petrol station on Lawford Road in Rugby last week.

Reports say at around 4.40am on Saturday September 24, two men approached a staff member working on the forecourt and threatened him with a bladed weapon.

The men, both covering their faces, demanded the worker open the locked door to the shop and broke open the till, taking the cash drawer from inside.

The pair then fled in the direction of Pinfold Street, ducking into an alleyway toward the Hope community centre.

The member of staff was lucky enough to escape unharmed after the incident.

One of the men is described as white, around six-feet tall of a stocky build, wearing a grey hooded jacket and a grey cap with a black and red scarf covering his face. The other man is described as white, of medium build, also covering his face and wore dark clothing with white trainers.

Detective Constable Alex Horwood, who is leading the investigation, said: “I appreciate that his incident took place over a week ago. However, I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious around that time to please come forward.”

Anyone with information should call the police on 101 and quote incident number 56 of Saturday September 24.
