Willoughby steps up fight against rural crime

Andy Morris 18th Mar, 2017   0

THE FIGHT against rural crime has stepped up in Willoughby, where villagers were presented with signs and property marking kit to help showcase their status as a ‘Supported Village’.

The scheme, part of the Warwickshire Rural Crime Project, aims to help village communities get proactive to prevent crime.

‘Thieves beware’ signs have been put up at the entrances to Willoughby, and property marking days have been held where villagers could bring along equipment and valuables.

Crime prevention measures have also been implemented at locations such as the church, village hall and allotments.

The Supported Village scheme is funded by Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Seccombe, who said the prevention and detection of rural crime was high on his agenda.

He added: “Local communities are key to this and I try to engage with parish councils, district and borough councillors and Neighbourhood Watch groups to be able to help us with our fight against rural crime.”
