Fraudsters in Rugby causing alarm

Rugby Editorial 18th May, 2017   0

COLD-callers falsely claiming to work for Warwickshire Police and selling alarms have been reported in Rugby.

Fraudsters have tried to make appointments for salespeople to visit homes in Draycote Road and Cowan Close.

Warwickshire Police have said they do not cold-call residents to sell alarm systems, and have urged people to report similar incidents.

Tactics used to sell expensive and unsuitable alarm systems include pretending to be calling on behalf of Trading Standards, Fire and Rescue Service, Police or Neighbourhood Watch in order to make their visit appear official.

Another method is to offer ‘free’ monitored alarms to householders for which the buyer is then subject to a number of hidden costs.

Consumers considering buying an alarm system are advised to get three quotes from reputable companies beforehand.
