TWO WORTHY causes are quids in thanks to the year-long fundraising efforts of Rugby’s outgoing Mayor.
Coun Sally Bragg has raised over £3,700 for Rugby Area Talent Trust (RATT) and the Oral Health Foundation – her chosen charities for her year in office.
Coun Bragg said: “It has been an honour to be Mayor of Rugby for the past year, attending so many events and meeting so many members of our community.
“It has also been a fantastic opportunity to support and promote the work of Rugby Area Talent Trust and the Oral Health Foundation, and I’m delighted to have been able to make donations to both charities.”
RATT, founded in the summer of 2015, supports young people in the borough who have a talent and passion for music, arts, academia, sport or entrepreneurism, providing grants, tutoring and opportunities to perform.
Young performers from the trust took centre stage at Coun Bragg’s major fund-raising event – Showtime, the Mayor’s Charity Gala, which took place in January.
Youngsters from RATT also sang at the Civic Sunday service at St Andrew’s Church and at a reception for civic leaders from across Warwickshire and the West Midlands.
Coun Bragg chose Oral Health Foundation as her other nominated charity after suffering from mouth cancer herself 19 years ago.
The foundation works to improve oral health around the world through education and campaigns such as National Smile Month and Mouth Cancer Action Month.
During her Mayoral year, Coun Bragg took a trip to the town’s Beehive Nursery with a dental nurse to teach children the importance of keeping teeth clean and regular visits to the dentists, and also presented prizes at Rugby Dental Care to the winners of a children’s ‘design a toothbrush’ competition.
