Warwickshire Pride to be the 'biggest and best'

Rugby Editorial 15th Aug, 2017   0

LOVE and freedom are the themes of this weekend’s Warwickshire Pride Festival, which organisers say will be the ‘biggest and best’ yet.

The annual free event – which supports lesian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) life and culture – will return to the Pump Room Gardens on between 11am and 6pm on Saturday (August 19).

Organisers say this year’s celebration is even more poignant as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in England and Wales.

The festival will include some 60 stalls in a rainbow marketplace, fairground rides for children, food from around the world, bars, a transgender chill out zone and two stages of live entertainment.

Headlining this year are 90s pop sensation Kavana, X Factor finalist Relley C and Kyle Passmore from BBC1’s Let it Shine. There will also be a performance from Asifa Lahore, the UK’s first Muslim Drag Queen.

Warwickshire Pride’s chair of trustees, Daniel Browne, said: “Warwickshire Pride is returning with more rainbows, fabulousness and entertainment than ever before.

“We aim to represent the whole LGBT+ spectrum at the festival, but of course welcome anyone who wants to come and join in with the celebrations. There is something for everyone to enjoy, regardless of age, gender identity or sexuality.

“This year we will be highlighting the struggles that LGBT+ people still go through, particularly in relation to hate crime, as there is still some way to go until full social equality is achieved.”
