Rugby Welsh lose out to Daventry in pre-season finale

RUGBY UNION: RUGBY Welsh missed out against Daventry Town as preparations for their league campaign came to a close.

In typically warm conditions, Welsh had to face a 28-man Daventry squad as the home side only had one fixture scheduled.

Welsh started well with their scrum performing positively and Jack Taylor looking to create opportunities for the backline.

But it was Daventry that took the lead when their useful centre created a chance to send their winger through who scored a converted try.

It looked like it would be a long afternoon for Welsh as Daventry regularly made changes to freshen their side up.

However Welsh were highly competitive with Andy Higham and Lorenzo at the heart of the action in the back row whilst Adam Bond put in numerous strong tackles in midfield.

Welcome returns were made by Ed Beynon and Ross Mawby which will help to increase Welsh’s playing squad.

The second half saw Daventry score three tries – two of which were converted.

But Welsh refused to buckle.

George Lowe defended well at full back and the forwards continued to match their opponents throughout.

Welsh deservedly got on the scoresheet at the end of the game when Jack Taylor made a break and created a well taken try for winger Gareth Hart.

Welsh begin their league campaign this weekend when they travel to face traditionally tough opponents Atherstone.

Kick off is at 3pm.
