CYCLE SPEEDWAY: MORE than a decade of hard work and determination will feel worth it for a borough cycle speedway racer next weekend when he jets off to Australia for the world championships.
Lee Kemp will fly out to Adelaide with Team GB as they first prepare to face Australia in an Ashes Test Series before Kemp takes on the world’s best in the World Individual Championships later this month.
The 19-year-old, who lives in Wolston, has qualified for the past two British Finals – in Exeter and Wolverhampton respectively – and had to fight off competition from 18 other riders to be selected in Team GB’s final 12-man squad.
His appearance in Adelaide will top off what has been a standout season for the Wednesfield racer.
Not only did he help the Aces secure the British Team Championship, he also represented the Midlands in the newly introduced ‘Battle of Britain’ series.
Kemp is receiving support from Brandon Hall Hotel – where he works – and Wolston Villagers are hosting a quiz to raise funds to help cover his travel expenses.
