FOOTBALL: RUGBY Borough boss Darren Tank has expressed his delight in the way his young team has started the 2017/18 season.
Borough sit top of the Leicestershire Senior League Division One having won ten of their opening 11 games and drawing the other.
The unbeaten start bodes well for a successful future at Borough, especially considering this year marks the club’s first season in competitive senior football.
A 14-0 win against bottom side Earl Shilton heavily underlined Borough’s ambition to earn promotion this season, which looks to be on the cards as third placed Asfordby sit ten points behind Borough with one game in hand.
Manager Darren Tank admitted he’s pleased with his side’s efforts so far and is already planning for the remainder of the season.
He said: “I always look at the table after ten games and see where we are and how we can plan for the remainder of the season.
“I’m delighted by the start and progress we’ve made.
“We’ve had some big scores but we had to start somewhere, and we can only play what’s put in front of us.”
Part of Saturday’s 14-0 win was down to Borough’s precision and accuracy in front of goal.
It’s become part of a growing trend for Borough – 66 goals in 11 league games speaks for itself.
“I felt sorry for Earl Shilton as they are a nice club with some good facilities,” said Tank.
“But we were clinical and that has been the case all along.
“Our young players are gaining great experience playing men’s football against decent players, and come next year we will be better for it.”
Part of Borough’s success lies with star striker Adam Shaw, who has already netted 26 times this season.
Another six goals on Saturday boosted Shaw’s already sky high confidence, and Tank is keen to keep his star youngster on the field throughout the season.
He said: “We can’t stop anybody coming to watch Adam, and the way he is playing at the moment is great for him and the team.
“He’s a lovely lad who just wants to play football, along with all our young players.
“Our goalkeeper Dan Flack has been great too. Nothing phases him and he has a bright future.”
Borough are back in action this weekend when they entertain Birmingham Irish FC at Kilsby Lane in the Birmingham County FA Vase.
Admission is free and kick off is at 2pm.
