Councillor launches bid to pump £1.5m into Warwickshire's under-threat children's centres

A BID has been launched to pump an extra £1.5milion into Warwickshire’s under-threat children’s centres.

A meeting will be held on Wednesday (November 29) to discuss plans to use cash from Warwickshire County Council (WCC) reserves, proposed by Labour councillor Richard Chattaway.

Radical plans to axe centres to save £1.1milion – to help address a £67million drop in WCC’s government funding – were given the go-ahead last week by the council’s Conservative-controlled Cabinet.

It agreed the county’s 39 centres would be reduced to just 14 ‘children and family centres’, with a number of others being used as ‘outreach’ bases run by third parties.

The move, which was met with fierce opposition, is set to be implemented by October 2019.

The meeting will be broadcast live over the internet, starting at 10am. Visit www.warwickshire.gov.uk for more information.
