Defiant Rugby woman 'living with cancer, not dying from it' as she braves the shave

‘LIVING with cancer, not dying from it’ – those were the words of a defiant Rugby woman who Braved the Shave in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Sandra Eadon has been fighting the disease for nearly two years.

After having two surgeries and eight chemotherapy sessions to successfully remove bowel and liver tumours, a routine scan early this year revealed the cancer had become ‘treatable but not curable’, having attacked her lymph nodes.

But Sandra decided to do something positive to help the Macmillan nurses who have supported her through her illness.

And so far she has raised nearly £800 – and counting.

She said: “I have siblings who have also been hit by this horrible disease and have come out the other side fit and well. One of my siblings is fighting cancer at the moment so it has hit my family very hard.

“I have also lost family members to cancer and it has also affected friends – some of whom have survived, and others who haven’t.

“Last year I started to lose my hair and hid away in my sister’s dog grooming cabin to have my head shaved. But this time I have embraced the shave to raise some money to help the work our fantastic Macmillan nurses do.”

Her nephew Barry Phillipson offered moral support by joining her for a head-shave at Marsella’s Hair Design in Eastlands Road, while her granddaughter Zoe Stewart helped get the haircuts underway.

Keeping it in the family – Sandra’s granddaughter Zoe Stewart started Sandra’s shave, while Sandra started Barry’s. (s)
