School book club spreads joy of reading

THE JOY of reading is being spread among kids at a primary school’s book club.

Children at The Revel Primary in Monks Kirby have been sharing their reading thoughts and experiences at the club.

Teacher Sarah Carlin said: “We celebrate reading by discussing what the children have read and enjoyed, and choose new and exciting books together.

“Children say book club gives them confidence to talk about the books they love, and they look forward to finding out about the activities and competitions we run.”

The school has launched several literary-themed competitions alongside Paula Dew from Usborne Books at Home and School.

“The Travels of Ermine – Who is Very Determined really inspired us to think about where we’d travelled,” added Sarah.

“I brought in scrapbooks and photos from my trips overseas. We really enjoyed talking about our reading journeys and the places it had taken us so Paula came up with the idea of asking the children to make a scrapbook about themselves.

“The winner was Ella Godfrey, who produced a stunning and very detailed book about her interests and experiences.”
