Cadets pick up Spring Fair windfall

YOUNG cadets who volunteered to help clean up Whitehall Recreation Ground after this year’s Rotary Spring Fair have been given a share of over £14,000 raised at the event.

Representatives of Rugby’s three Rotary Clubs visited the Rugby Sea Cadets at Seabrooke House to show their appreciation and hand over the donation.

The Cadets’ commanding officer, Sub Lieutenant Gareth Head, said: “Our cadets and staff always enjoy attending this event and it is one of the highlights of our year. Testament to this is the 27 cadets who all volunteered to take part.

“Over the years the support we have received from the Rotary Clubs has been key to our unit acquiring some of the boats we use on Draycote Water. The donation we have received this year will be used to purchase IT equipment.”

Joh Thomas from Urban & Civic, the developers of Houlton and main sponsors of the fair, said: “It was great to learn how the Rotary Spring Fair benefits the community not only with a fun event on the day but with the support it brings to groups such as the Rugby Sea Cadets.”

The fair’s marketing lead Willy Goldschmidt added: “Sponsorship from Houlton was key to securing the essential infrastructure and some of the attractions provided at the fair.

“We look forward to working with Joh and her colleagues for the fair in 2019 which we will start planning in September.”
