A KIND-hearted teenager has been praised for completing 100 hours of voluntary charity work.

Zara Bacon has been learning new skills while giving up her free time to Oxfam in Rugby for over a year.

Upon completing the milestone, the Avon Valley School student received a certificate from vinspired – a UK volunteering charity for 14-25 year-olds – for her dedication and commitment.

Each time she worked at Oxfam’s shop in Regent Street, Zara – a member of the school’s Fortune House – recorded her time on the vinspired website and her log was verified by the charity’s staff.

Zara’s achievement, and the hours logged, will also go towards the completion of her Duke of Edinburgh award which she has almost finished.

Head teacher Alison Davies said: “It is wonderful to see a student committing their time outside of school for the benefit of others.

“What’s even more impressive is that Zara has used her own initiative to do this. Zara’s a hardworking student who has learnt a whole range of new skills through volunteering her time, this will no doubt serve her well in the future.

“One hundred hours is huge amount of time and I hope Zara is very proud of her achievement.”
