Life-saving skills taught in Lutterworth

LIFE-savers are abundant in Lutterworth after a charity held a CPR and defibrillator training day.

Shops, businesses, members of the public and Mayor Brian Poulter attended training sessions at Lutterworth Town Hall, hosted by the charity Heartwize to coincide with National Start a Heart Day.

Heartwize founders, cardiologists Bill Toff and Doug Skeen, realised there were many defibrillators around Lutterworth but not everyone would know how to use them.

The medics have a team of volunteers who go to schools and colleges in Leicestershire to teach people how to administer CPR in the event of a cardiac arrest, and when and how to use a defibrillator.

Volunteer Val Cooper said: “The event was well attended and eventually it is hoped that if ever someone collapses in the street in Lutterworth, a passer-by may be able to go into any of the shops and someone will know what to do.”
