Welsh get back on track in fine style

RUGBY Welsh got back to winning ways with a 34-19 victory over a hardworking Keresley.

Keresley opened the scoring when their centre spotted a gap and raced in for a converted try.

However, Welsh responded quickly and, following a number of forward drives, second row Ash Beecham crashed over from short range. The conversion was missed.

Keresley’s experienced pack was causing Welsh problems and along with their creative fly half they were soon further ahead with a converted try.

Welsh were still making errors as the half drew to a close but were able to narrow the gap to 14-12 when Leigh Colledge showed his strength and powered over the whitewash. Glenn Bond kicked the extras.

After the break Welsh raised their intensity and it was not long until Bond kicked a penalty to give his side the slenderest of leads.

Winger Harry Whiteside had an impressive game and his display was rewarded with a try in the corner.

Bond converted to stretch Welsh’s lead.

Keresley refused to lie down though and soon narrowed the gap with an unconverted try.

The introduction of flanker Loz Galleno helped to prevent Keresley’s fly-half from running the game and, from a charge down and kick from Beecham, Galleno capitalised for an opportunist try. Bond kicked the extras once again.

Jack Taylor then ran in the final try of the game for Welsh to complete the scoring.
