RUGBY High School will welcome a new head teacher when the next academic year starts in September.

The school’s governors announced that current deputy head Mark Grady has been appointed to succeed Charlotte Marten upon her retirement.

Chair of governors Peter Reaney said: “After a testing and rigorous selection process, Mark emerged as the outstanding candidate from a very strong field of candidates from across the country.

“We believe his appointment will be welcomed wholeheartedly by staff, students and parents.

“While at the school he has proved to be an inspirational teacher of English and Drama and significantly, an inspirational and aspirational leader over the last four and a half years in his role as deputy.

“Under Charlotte Marten’s exemplary leadership for the last twelve years, our outstanding school has gone from strength to strength and the Governors believe that Mark is absolutely the right person to take us beyond outstanding.”

Mr Grady worked at Rugby High as an English and drama teacher before leaving to become head of department at Myton School in Warwick. He rejoined Rugby High in 2014.

He said: ”I am tremendously excited to be appointed head teacher of such a wonderful school. The community at RHS is one that is very special indeed, and it is a great honour and privilege to be entrusted with its leadership.

“I look forward to working with the staff, students, parents and governing body to ensure RHS remains the pioneering school that Olive Hands created in 1903, ensuring that her legacy continues to support and offer an excellent education for the young women of Rugby.”
