Electric car charging points coming to Lutterworth area

ECO-friendly motorists will be able to charge their electric cars in Lutterworth and Broughton Astley.

Harborough District Council has announced charging points for electric vehicles will be installed in Station Road car park in Lutterworth and Orchard Road car park in Broughton Astley, following their installation at a car park in Market Harborough.

The charging points cost £1.40 to charge an electric vehicle for two hours – paid for via the Podpoint app which can be downloaded on mobile devices. The app also shows other locations of charging points across the country.

The council’s environment and regulatory services spokesman Coun Jonathan Bateman said: “We are introducing electric charging points following requests from the public. Electric vehicles are becoming more popular as a greener way to travel and we want to respond to this by installing them in our own car parks.”

Council leader Coun Neil Bannister said: “Electric vehicles are better for the environment, and cheaper to run and maintain so it is not a surprise that they are increasing in popularity.

“We will continue to provide further electric vehicle charge points later in the year as part of the work we do to help address environmental issues in our district.”

In July 2018, the council introduced electric vehicle charging points at the council-owned Harborough Innovation Centre with a view to providing more across the district.
